ATTENTION EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS
What to do?
+ Make every effort to arrange for a substitute if you are unable to serve on an assigned date. Do not assume someone will be there to take your place.
+ Come to Mass prepared and appropriately dressed to serve. Even if not assigned you may be asked to fill in.
+ Check at the sacristy before Mass and ask if help is needed. There are 68 EMs and we do not all know each other by sight and name.
Finding a Substitutes _ common sense rules:
- Make a reasonable effort to call someone in your time group or others you know who may occasionally go to Mass at your assigned time.
- You are not expected to call all 68 ministers on the list - just make a good effort.
- Can't serve? No need to report to me - just use the call list that comes with the schedule.
- Wrong phone number? - Do call me with corrections or changes. Don't assume that information reported to the parish office has been passed on.
Some Useful tips
+ The time to pour the wine into the cups is during the singing of the "Lamb of God." Some EMs go to the altar and immediately beginning pouring the wine. The Breaking of the Bread and pouring of Wine is meant to be done together during the singing of the Lamb of God.
+ After taking the Eucharistic Bread from the tabernacle do not close the doors until the Eucharistic Bread is returned. An empty tabernacle should have it doors open.
Miscellaneous
I'm occasionally asked how dates are assigned. Here's the formula.
Each Mass group is divided into two or three "teams." Each team is preprogrammed to serve every 2nd or 3rd Sunday. I do this on my computer with a program called "Calendar Creator."
We need 7 EMs
per Mass so ideally each "team" would have 7 EMs.
